Security Updates

An archive of almost 5 million GMail addresses and passwords were posted to an online forum yesterday (9/9/14). According to one security firm, the data is outdated and sourced from multiple security breaches.

Peter Kruse, the chief technology officer of CSIS Security Group, a Danish security company that provides cybercrime intelligence to financial institutions and law enforcement, states that he believes that the data didn't originate directly from Google, meaning that the usernames and passwords likely do not match with Google or Gmail accounts, but instead match with sites where a user uses his or her GMail address to sign up.

Even if the leaked information turns out not to be directly from Google, users might still want to change their passwords on websites where they used their Gmail address as the user name.
